Kyle is a Goodjingburra man, a member of the Bundjalung nation. For him the past is ever present. Wollumbin is always there too. As a member of the steering committee that oversees joint management of the mountain, he also has to look to the future. The fact that many thousands of visitors make the steep climb to the top of the most sacred place in Bundjalung culture poses plenty of challenges. But Kyle hopes some good may yet come out of it all.

We want to get to a point where ours is the voice that speaks for the place and people know us as the face of that place. But he also thinks a lot about keeping up traditions and the kind of world his sons might inherit. For us the management of the land has always been critical to our people, our identity. Unfortunately the view was obscured by smoke but that didn't stop quite a few people from making the climb. Most of it is in rainforest and easy apart from the climb at the top which is hard.

Very enjoyable walk. Very hot in summer. Take lots of water. The view at the top is magic. There are lots of big flies at the top so take insect repellant. There are lightning rods attached to the viewing platform and people have died up there trying to camp during storms. My first "testing" hike. Did the walk solo and found it really easy to navigate through the track as it's clearly marked and laid out. My legs were not use to climbing 74 trillion steps so by the time it got to the scramble to the summit I was pretty gassed.

Tried to practice my scrambling and not rely on the assistance chain but it did come in handy. I'm super unfit so I had a few breaks on the way but overall a pretty easy track only 3 and a half to 4 hrs return if you have a steady pace.

I personally thought the views just before reaching the summit where better than from the peak I'm not sure if that's because it felt more natural and vast as a posed to being on the "balcony". A group of us went up - 6 adults and 8 children aged between 7 and They all loved it. Took about 6hrs return including many snack stops and lunch at the top. If you have to go to the bathroom please be prepared to take your mess with you!

Views were beautiful, chains at the end were good fun. Everyone was very helpful and friendly. Lyrebird track Wollumbin National Park, including Lyrebird track, remains closed until the end of March due to public safety risks , and to allow further consultation with the Aboriginal community and other key stakeholders about the future management of the site.
