Can i make fractions in word

I clicked Insert, and then Equation. At that point you say to select Fraction from the Structures section. At this point in the process, there is no Structures section in my Word Dead end.

Chris, we apologize that this did not work out for you. Walsh University no longer has Word so I cannot go back and fact check it, but these are definitely the directions for , which is what we have now. For others, ie. Hope it helps! Click equation. Chris, its ages since you posted but just in case you still need to know - click on insert and then go to where it says 'Equations' but don't click on the down arrow, click on the 'pie' symbol and then you will find all the options appearing.

Fractions like one third does not have the look like half in MS word How do we get all fractions to all look symmetrical. This does not address Word for Mac , the current version.

None of these options work for this version. This is terrific! Thank you Katie. I used your method to resolve this, but it didn't work. I'm using Word The fraction boxes show up just fine, but after typing in my numbers, nothing changes.

What's the purpose of the tool if not to match the formatting of the other fractions? So frustrating! To those who have had some issues - we apologize! We have Word at Walsh University and unfortunately cannot go back and physically try the old systems. If you are a Walsh student, please come to the reference desk - we would be happy to walk you through what to do, regardless of what year your Word is from.

I am working with Word for Mac in office Even though these Symbols have no dedicated keys on the keyboard, you can still type them on the keyboard with the Alt code method. To do this, press and hold the Alt key whilst pressing the Fraction Alt code stated above, using the numeric keypad. Use the fraction Alt Code table above as reference to type any fraction symbol on your keyboard with the alt codes. Below table shows all the shortcuts for the various fraction symbols that you can use to type any fraction on Windows or Mac.

You must use the numeric keypad to type the alt code. Also, ensure that your Num Lock key is turned on. Another easy way to get Fraction Symbol s on any PC is to use my favorite method: copy and paste. Below is the symbol for you to copy and paste into your Word document.

In this article, I will show you several ways in which you can write fractions using a variety of methods. For basic fractions, go to the 'Insert' tab and click 'Symbol'. By scrolling down, you will be able to find several simple fractions ready for you to insert. This only includes a half, quarters and eighths, so is fairly limited, but sometimes this is all you need and this is by far the simplest method for adding these fractions into your document.

If this is not happening, you can switch it on by going to the 'File' tab, clicking on 'Options', then 'Proofing', then 'AutoCorrect Options'. Note that this only works for those fractions found in the insert symbols table.

Instead of having to click through to the symbols menu each time, you can use the following keyboard shortcuts to bring up simple fractions:. Sometimes it can be appropriate just to use the forward slash in between your numerator and denominator in order to create a fraction. This makes your fractions a bit neater and removes the need for brackets in fractions with more than one term top or bottom e.

To use this method, highlight the numerator, then find the superscript button 'x 2 ' on the 'Font' section of the 'Home' tab. Clicking this will make your numerator slightly smaller and raise it up. Proceed by creating a new document—using the Blank Document control, or opening an existing one—using the Open control. The image below shows a newly-created document. On the ribbon, click the File tab to display the Start screen. From there, click the Options button on the bottom left corner to display the Word Options dialog box.

Settings from the Word Options dialog box are grouped accordingly into sections. Click the Proofing section and find the AutoCorrect Options button. Click it to display the AutoCorrect dialog box. This dialog box contains features that can automatically format texts as you type them in your document.

Leave other checkboxes as is and click the OK button of the AutoCorrect dialog to apply your setting. Finally, click the OK button on the Word Options dialog box to close the dialog box. Now that you have enabled the fraction character feature, you can already type fractions in your document. Recall that there are two parts of a fraction— numerator and denominator.

Remember not to include spaces between your input characters, for it will not be considered a fraction by the AutoCorrect feature. After typing your fraction, press the spacebar key on your keyboard and notice that your data will be formatted into a fraction character.

Another method that you can use to include fractions is by using predefined fractions that are accessible on the Symbol dialog box. This dialog box can be displayed using the Symbol drop-down button on the Insert tab.

Open the MS Word program and create a new document or open an existing one through the controls available on the Start screen. With a document already open, click the Insert tab on the ribbon and look for the Symbols group.

From here, you need to click the Symbol drop-down button to view the list of symbols under it. By default, the drop-down list will display the recently-used ones.

To access all available symbols, click the More Symbols button under the list. Now that you have displayed the Symbol dialog box , you need to filter the list of symbols.
